COLUMBIA — Hickman senior Brandon Page dominated the tennis court Monday evening in the Kewpies’ dual against Mexico at Cosmopolitan Park. He competed in both singles and doubles and lost just one game in two matches.

Overall, the Kewpies won all nine matches and pushed their season record to 4-8.

In his first match, Page won 6-0, 6-0 in singles before switching to doubles to join teammate Alex Turner in a a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

“Transitioning to doubles is difficult,” Page said, “because the serving is different and your mind-set is different. There is more emphasis on volleys and you are moving forward more than side-to-side.”

Hickman coach Andy Materer said he tries to match players that have good chemistry and have complementary strengths for doubles. He said some players are better at doubles because they are stronger in their volleys and serves than in their baseline game.

Despite Monday’s doubles performance against Mexico, Page said he is a better singles player right now.

Hickman will play rival Rock Bridge 4 p.m. Tuesday at Cosmopolitan Park.

One of the top matches to watch will be the No. 1 singles match between Page and Rock Bridge senior Jay Kinderknecht, who defeated Page 6-2, 6-4 earlier this year but lost to Page last season.

The Bruins defeated Hannibal 8-1 Monday at Rock Bridge. Both coaches agreed to have Rock Bridge sit their best six players for the dual.

The only loss for the Bruins came at No. 5 singles. Freshman Jimmy Hunter won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
