Former Tiger player playing well in minor leagues

Former Missouri baseball pitcher Max Scherzer dominated late Thursday night in Sacramento for the Tucson Sidewinders. In his third AAA outing, Scherzer pitched five scoreless innings, struck out 11, and allowed just two hits and one walk. Scherzer, 23, received a no-decision and does not yet have a decision.

Tucson, an Arizona Diamondbacks’ affiliate, was defeated 4-3 by the Sacramento River Cats, an Oakland A’s affiliate.

On the season, Scherzer has pitched 17 innings without giving up an earned run. He has struck out 29 and allowed just seven hits and three walks.

Scherzer was selected 11th overall by the Diamond Backs in the 2007 draft after leaving Missouri.
