After a season in which she led the Hickman girls’ basketball team to a 21-7 finish as a senior, Yvonne Anderson was named to the annual Parade All-American fourth team.
The team, which is voted on by coaches, scouts, recruiters and media, features the 40 best girls basketball players in the country.
“I think she’s definitely the best player in the state of Missouri, and one of the best in the country,” Hickman coach Tonya Mirts said. “She’s probably the best playmaker I’ve seen in a long time, and she did a lot for this team.”
Sunday’s Parade magazine will feature the first, second and third teams, and the fourth team can be seen on Parade.com Sunday.
Anderson was also named to the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association All-State team, as well as earning the title of Miss Show-Me Basketball after averaging 23.6 points per game.
Anderson’s brightest highlight came early in the season when she scored 47 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 75-61 win against Mustang, Okla. on December 28.
The daughter of MU men’s basketball coach Mike Anderson, Yvonne Anderson plans to continue her career at the University of Texas next fall.
“I definitely think she’s made a great decision,” Mirts said of Anderson’s decision to sign with Texas coach Gail Goestenkors. “She’s going to play for a coach that’s proven herself at the college level, and Yvonne really fits with the style that she’s trying to play there.”
