Willard 'Skeets' Connor

COLUMBIA — Willard “Skeets” Connor of Columbia died Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at Columbia Manor Care Center. He was 83.


He was born Sept. 18, 1924, in Rocheport to Grant and Lillie Connor.


Mr. Connor married Cora Edna Jackman on Aug. 31, 1950.


He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching baseball and talking politics with the Rev. Michael Jackman.


“My dad enjoyed being with family and friends,” his daughter Lois Connor said.


Mr. Connor referred to his friends as “lad” and enjoyed the occasional drink, which he referred to as a “toddy,” Lois Connor said.


Survivors include his wife; seven daughters, Linda Gillon of Tampa, Fla., Lorraine Smith of Decatur, Ill., Lillian Cobbs of Douglasville, Ga., Loretta Connor, Lois Connor, Laverne Fisher and Laura Hayes, all of Columbia; one son, Larry Connor of New Franklin; one nephew; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.


Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at Russell Chapel CME Church, 108 E. Ash St. Services, conducted by the Rev. Michael Jackman, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 W.
